Cooperation with KAOS architects was highly constructive and pleasant. They worked on the main castle project for four years – from the architecture competition to the final changes in the design documentation immediately before the opening of the museum. Dating back to mid-13th century and marked by numerous destructions and reconstructions, the main castle building is a complex object for renovation. Finding a good balance between the historic ruins and the new contemporary layer was one of the trickiest tasks in the given project. The sensitive approach taken by the architects provided the 700-year-old Haapsalu Castle with a dignified new layer that does not dominate the historic volume but only complements it.
