I am passionate about urban space and closely follow urban environment solutions all over the world – this has also shaped the developments of Invego. We never develop merely a single building but an entire area, it is important to sense the ambience when walking between the buildings and how various parts support one another. The vision for Krulli Park was very clear – we are creating a space that would naturally extend the indoor space to the outdoors. There had to be no difference whether you work inside or outside, the outdoor space had to be a natural part of the function and everyday use of the building. This was also our input to landscape architects: we wanted something distinctive, modern and really enriching the urban space. We ruled out a classic park area and the aim was to create an environment for both work and leisure. It was truly exciting to work with the landscape architects and I admire their courage to put our ideas into practice. It was clear from the start that we would not create a mediocre standard solution, and the first few sketches were left aside. In the end, we got a genuinely inspiring design with the indoor and outdoor spaces blending into one.

The greatest value of the area was the large trees in the plot. That is why we tried to come up with a solution that would preserve the trees and make it a recreational area for the local residents and employees. So we created the environment as natural as possible to make people feel as if on a hiking trail allowing them to recover from the stress of urban life.

There is a timber platform raised above the ground with seating for various purposes (pavilions, swivel chairs, larger platforms etc). This way, office workers can work outside either alone or in groups. The terrace area is accentuated by trees with the plants underneath reminiscent of Estonian forests. There are also lower depressions for better natural infiltration of rainwater to create an even richer vegetation in the park forest area. The entire vegetation – smaller trees, taller and lower shrubs, and various herbaceous plants – helps to increase biodiversity as there used to be only tall trees and grass.
