This project is a part of a more extensive renovation of the outdoor spaces in Telliskivi TLN commercial district to connect the areas between the historical industrial buildings and new-builds into a coherent whole. The aim was to bring more greenery and diversity to the area so that there would be spaces to have lunch, relax and observe the surroundings, hold outdoor meetings, organise concerts and smaller events.
The backbone of the solution is the central axis starting from the archway between I-2 and I-3 Buildings that will continue directly through the M-Building in the future. The central axis brings together the smaller diagonally placed play and recreational areas and the square. For lunchtime and meetings, there are two green roof shelters, and visitors are invited to play with sand, stones and water.
The vertical planning and underground utilities remained, thus there is a denser grove of trees in the northern part of the courtyard. The common alder and silver birch trees will grow taller and provide shelter and habitats. Biodiversity is also enhanced by green roofs, shrubs on stone chippings and wildflower turfs. Several depressions are planned for the new green area to collect rainwater locally. Creating a human-centred and greener space improves the working environment and adds value to the surrounding service facilities.
